Where to shop for fashion in Budapest
Whatever you’re looking for, if it’s fashion, you’ll find it in the places we’re going to show you. Some focus only on luxury while others will give you a nice mix of more commercial clothing and bars.
Join us for a look at places to suit all tastes and pockets.
Andrássy avenue
We can’t start a list of the best places to buy clothes without the name Andrássy appearing in the first few moments.
Andrássy Avenue, Andrássy út is its original name, is the most beautiful and luxurious avenue in the whole of Budapest. And we are not talking about a publicity or marketing gimmick. It is very real.
Since its creation, Andrássy Avenue has been born to embrace the luxury and sophistication of the Hungarian capital. Designed as the home of the wealthiest people in Budapest, from nobles to bankers, it was a real battle of who could build the most beautiful palace.
The battle of beauty has resulted in more than two kilometres of spectacular architecture, full of details.
Above all the luxury and mansions, the fantastic Opera House stands out. A neo-renaissance building that must appear in your mobile phone’s photo gallery without excuses. For all this it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2002.
But let’s focus on what we do best: shopping. Strolling along Andrássy Avenue is like strolling through any fashion lover’s dream; Dior, Gucci, Armani and the best accessories with brands such as Rolex or Louis Vuitton.
Andrássy Avenue is the main artery of the city of Budapest, and crosses it, linking monuments and emblematic locations of the capital. The end of the walk along its wide promenade ends at Heroes’ Square.
Fashion Street
It wouldn’t be fair to talk about fashion and streets and not talk about Fashion Street, it wouldn’t make any sense.
This small pedestrian street, small compared to the huge Andrássy Avenue, has many shops that will be very familiar to you; Lacoste, Tommy Hilfiger and even names like Philipp Plein.
Among internationally recognised brands, you’ll find a mix of local fashion shops, which showcase the most urban fashion and give you a new approach to the trends that are being worn here.
In addition, between shops, you can stop for a coffee or a snack in one of the cafés. Stop by Deák Ferenc u. 15 to start your tour of local and international fashion.
And yes, if the name of the street sounds familiar, it’s because you’ve already passed by the square with the same name, Deák Ferenc tér, one of the most central points in Budapest.
Váci Utca
We head south to find another of Budapest’s most famous, visited and lively streets; Váci Utca.
Very close to the Elizabeth Bridge, this street is full of atmosphere and history and connects Budapest’s Central Market with the popular Vörösmarty Square, the most atmospheric square in the Hungarian capital.
For more than a kilometre you’ll feel like you’re in paradise, combining national and international clothing shops with souvenir shops, cafés for coffee and Chimney Cakes, and restaurants specialising in local cuisine. What more could you ask for from a street?
Maybe an interesting history. That’s all said and done. Váci Utca was the street that led you to the gate of the then walled city in the Middle Ages. Today it combines the majesty of some palaces with the atmosphere of a constant crowd that gives life and a special colour and atmosphere to the street.
