Giselle Vintage Doubles: A History of Elegance and Style
As mentioned on our homepage, Giselle Vintage Doubles is situated on the top floor of the former Royal Mansion, which was built by the Habsburg Dynasty in 1894.
Opposite the Parisian Courtyard, stands the former Royal Mansion. The four-storey building with its richly decorated facade was designed by the architects, Flóris Korb and Károly Giergl, as they were commissioned by the Archduchess Klotild.
The construction was carried out by one of the best-known companies of this era, Lipót Havel’s firm. Behind the ornate facade, boutiques were built on the ground floor, offices on the first floor and apartments above.
The palace was built for the nobles and high-ranking state officials, so that is the reason why the architects only worked with the best craftsmen of the period to design the interiors.
Even Franz Joseph visited the mansion on two occasions.
The Art Nouveau wrought-iron railings and gates are the work of Gyula Jungfer, but Miksa Róth was also commissioned to create coloured glass panels.
Behind the entrance hall is a large glass-covered courtyard. Opposite, there is also a gate on the Curia Street side.
In the past, the courtyard was unenclosed and anyone could walk through it.
The facade, now painstakingly restored, is slowly approaching its original state.
So if you are looking for a truly historical and vintage stay in Budapest, you should definitely check out both the interior and exterior of Giselle Vintage Doubles, because the building has a lot of stories to tell.
