Different and Geeky Museums | Fun in Budapest
Let’s have fun, let’s visit museums. Although it may sound like a phrase your parents might have said to you when you were little, this is a reality.
Whether you are one of the great art lovers or one of those who don’t even know what a museum looks like inside, these places are for you. The reason is very simple; what they want is to make you have a good time, to make you laugh and enjoy yourself.
And when the sole purpose of a place is to make you smile, how can you not go? And yes, they are museums, although some are more like traditional museums than others. Let’s take a look at them all.
Different and Geeky Museums | Fun in Budapest
Travelling Galaxy Exhibition
Kecskeméti u. 5, 1053
If we talk about different and geeky things, one of the first ideas that crosses our minds is Star Wars. That great universe created by George Lucas has countless fans who will see their dreams come true in this museum.
It’s not as big as we would like, but this museum has everything you can imagine; collector’s items signed by the main characters, life-size figures, light sets, laser swords that you can take photos with, yes you read that right and also completely free, and a mission; to find Han Solo.
You’re going to love this place, whether you’re one of the biggest fans of the saga or one of those who don’t know why the perfect answer to I love you is I already know.
Budapest Pinball Museum (Flippermúzeum)
Radnóti Miklós u. 18, 1137
After visiting a place like the one above, it is impossible to talk about any other place where you can see elements of such a mythical saga. But we can take you on another kind of journey.
It’s not to a galaxy far away, but to a time when you were surely very happy; the past. Pinball machines were not invented two days ago. In fact, they’re getting harder and harder to see, so when was the last time you saw one?
But I’m sure you remember the fun you had playing them, the characteristic noises they made and the infinite number of models that existed; there were those with themes from films, series or simply psychedelic drawings.
All of them are in this museum, which allows you to use each and every one of the 130 machines they have in their building just a few minutes from the Margaret Island coast. No extra charge, just your ticket entitles you to try as many of them as you like. Let’s play!
Museum of Illusions Budapest
Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út 3, 1065
When it comes to interactive museums, there is a museum that is making a name for itself in Europe’s major cities: the Museum of Illusions.
Budapest could not be less, and has joined the list of European capitals that have this extraordinary museum that will literally play with your senses to the point of making you doubt your own existence.
Above all, though, what it wants is for you to have a good time and laugh as you watch your travelling companion fall into the rotating corridor. But don’t laugh too much because you could be the next to fall or crash in the hall of mirrors.
An infinite number of challenges and challenges that will make you enjoy yourself like a child.
Museum of Sweets & Selfies (Szelfimúzeum) No.1: Origin
Paulay Ede u. 43, 1061
Then comes the moment loved by many and hated by so many; the photos. But not the classic Instagram photos in front of the Parliament looking out over the Danube, as if you haven’t been posing for a photo for more than ten minutes.
Forget about that, we’re talking about something completely original and different; the Museum of Sweets & Selfies. And we promise they are true to what they offer; you’ll have 400 metres of places, backgrounds and rooms in which to take the best selfies and photos of your trip and, what’s more, you’ll be able to try some sweets.
If you loved this place and want to come back tomorrow, wait a minute. There is more variety, they have thought of everything, keep reading.
Museum of Sweets & Selfies (Szelfimúzeum) No.2: Bubbles
Rákóczi út 40, 1072
There is still more to come. There are more rooms, more effects, more unexpected places where you can take unique and original photos.
Even if you don’t enjoy taking photos, whether you’re in front of or behind the lens, in this museum you’re going to have a great time going in and out of rooms with spectacular decorations. Like ordering a drink in a bar inside a bubble pool. I’m sure you couldn’t imagine doing that in Budapest.
Amazing Metal Art Gallery
Dohány u. 30./A, 1074. Entrance through the entrance of BAZ Beer Bar.
Undoubtedly the most different museum you will see on your trip to Budapest. Forget portraits and paintings, although you will see sculptures. Maybe not in the way you imagine, but you will see them.
This gallery exhibits metal figures made from recycled pieces of objects that were no longer useful or were broken. It looks nice and gentle, but it won’t seem so gentle when you see the figures from legendary films such as Alien or Predator in front of you.
Another thing that might make you go to this gallery is that you enter through a bar. What more do you need to visit an art gallery?
