Buda walking tour Budapest 2024

Welcome to the summer of Budapest!

We would like to introduce you to the sophisticated side of the city, which could also give you a little but of cooling down, during those hot summer days.

Let us be your guide, and walk you through the fancier Buda side of the Danube, where you can find several interesting and fun places, besides the historical monuments and most famous city sigths.

MARGARET ISLAND

Let’s start the day between Buda and Pest, at Margaret Island. If you are an early bird, and keen on sports as well, there are plenty of opportunities to wind out here.

You can take a refreshing walk or run around the island, or you can also rent a bike, or a bicycle carriage there, and stroll around, enjoying the sound of chirping birds and smelling the growing flowers.

BRUNCH

After the activity, you will definitely crave for something to eat. Then why not eat like a king or queen? There are several cool places to have brunch at Buda, but we will recommend you some near Margaret Bridge.

For example “KicsiZso”, which is a really small, but even full-hearted café, exactly on the Buda end of the bridge. Or you can visit “Törökméz”, which means honeycomb, and serves not just plentiful, but really healthy breakfast and brunch options.

For the sweet cravers, we recommend “Nor/Ma Grand”, which is at the Széll Kapu, and besides the yummy pastries, you can try the espresso tonic as well.

HIKING TO A LOOKOUT POINT

Our stomach is full, so we have the energy to refill our adventurous side. We have several good points to have a great view of Budapest. We recommend you some, which is close to the brunch facilities mentioned above.

The most close is the “Gül baba türbéje”. It is a mausoleum and Islamic pilgrimage site, located on Rózsadomb, which is a smaller hill on Buda side. Be aware, that a steeper walk leads there, but it is worth the effort, the tomb itself, and the view from there are both magnificent.

From the Nor/ma Grand, there are several options to visit more famous and spectacular lookout points, such as Normafa, and János-hegy. They are both one bus ride away from Széll Kálmán square.

The Normafa can be reached with bus nr. 21/221 to Normafa Gyermekvasút, and just walk up in 2 minutes. János-hegy can be reached with bus nr. 22/22A/222 to Zugliget Libegő, and you can decide if you would like to walk up to the Hill (around 20 minutes), or go up by chair lift.

DINE OUT IN A ROMANTIC ATMOSPHERE

The hike made space for a new gastronomical experience. From Zugliget, we recommend to try the Szépilona Bisztró, which is only 5 minutes with bus nr. 291.

They have both traditional and international cuisine, in a charming atmosphere. From Normafa, the closest but cosiest opportunity is Villa Bagatelle. You will find seasonal and abundant dishes, in a romantic atmosphere.

WALK AROUND THE CASTLE DISTRICT

When one is talking about Buda, the first thing what comes to mind is the Castle District. So we won’t let you leave that out of course. The most important sights to visit, are the Matthias Church, the Fisherman’s Bastion and the Castle.  You should visit the Várkert Bazár as well, it is a beautiful garden with great views to the Castle as well.
